Do you have a Computer Virus?
What is a Computer virus?
Through the course of using the Internet and your computer, you may have come in to contact with computer viruses. Many computer viruses are stopped before they can start, but there is still an ever growing concern as to what computer viruses do, and the list of common computer virus symptoms. The vast majority of viruses target systems running Microsoft Windows. This is due both to Microsoft’s large market share of desktop users (over 95%), and to design choices in Windows that make it much easier for viruses to infect hosts running Windows. Also, the diversity of software systems on a network limits the destructive potential of viruses and malware. A computer virus might corrupt or delete data on your computer, use your email program to spread itself to other computers, or even erase everything on your hard disk. RI Virus Removal can be tricky but the SNECS team has been doing it since 2002.
How do I know if I have a Virus?
Is your computer running very slowly? A common symptom of a virus is much slower than normal computer performance. However, there can be other reasons for the slow performance.
Are you getting unexpected messages, or are programs starting automatically? Some viruses can cause damage to Windows or some of your programs. The results of this damage might include messages appearing unexpectedly, programs starting or closing automatically, or Windows shutting down suddenly.
Other common signs:
Changes in the time it takes programs to open, unexpected changes in file date’s/time stamps, general slower system operation,
Reduced memory or disk space, unusual error messages, unusual screen activity, and/or failed program executions.

What do I do if I have a Computer virus?
Update your Operating System (OS)
Thwarting a pesky virus could be as simple as running updates on Windows or OS X. While updating your Operating System won’t necessarily clear the infection out, it may plug up any security holes that allow the virus to spread and wreak havoc on your PC.
Disconnect from your home network
Once you realize that you might be infected with a virus, the first thing to do is disconnect from your wired or Wi-Fi network (LAN or WAN), if you have one, to prevent the virus from spreading to other PCs in your house.
Update and run your Anti-Virus program
The most obvious thing to do when your PC becomes infected with malware is to update you anti-virus software and run a full system scan. This can help root out and remove the offending software. This is the only way to confirm for sure that you have a virus, and the easiest way to remove it from your system. But be aware, some advanced viruses can hide completely from anti-virus scans, which is where our technicians can take over to ensure the virus is entirely removed.
